The Role
The student internship program is an in-person learning and mentorship experience at J/PR. The ideal candidate knows business operations basics but is eager to jumpstart their career & is planning ahead for their future. The student internship program provides an integrated learning & training experience that immerses students in the fast-paced agency life through interaction with operations staff, including departments such as human resources, legal, accounting, and business development.
Students will dig into the basics and beginnings of successful business operations, getting exposure to strategy, research, budgets, community management, hiring, and collaboration & networking with professionals. This experience requires reliability, foundational knowledge of business operations through a college/university program, and a passion for the travel, hospitality, and lifestyle industries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Human Resources
- Assist in coordinating and monitoring office operations & employee relations
- Assist with the administrative portion of new-hire orientation, including onboarding docs, scheduling, training, calendar inputs, SOPs, etc.
- Assist with employee engagement surveys
- Attend HR onboarding meetings
- Assist with resume review
- Shadow payroll & benefits administration
- Provide support for any projects that individuals need assistance with
Finance
- Assist in the collection, cleaning, & organizing of financial data for reporting
- Further skills & experience using Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, Ramp, & Harvest
- Support ongoing projects, including budget forecasting & cost analysis
- Assist in office organization (filing checks, sorting documents for shredding, etc.)
- Shadow client bill back reports & company expenses
- Shadow credit card reconciliation
- Assist in daily operational tasks
Business Operations
- Listen in on client contract review
- Assist in data reporting through Harvest
- Sit-in on inter-office meetings amongst all Biz-Ops team members
- Participate in team brainstorming sessions
- Assist in daily tasks for upcoming client events
- Update trainings via J/PR intranet
Professional Growth
- Learn time management tips + tricks
- Gain front-row access to the ins & outs of business operations
- Engage with the industry leaders & award-winning company culture
- Learn to collaborate & network with teams/professional individuals
- Build portfolio & resume
- Perfect your communication skills (industry & internal emails)
Experience:
- College student with a concentration in Business, Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, or Business Administration
- Previous intern experience is beneficial but not required
Requirements:
- Must enroll in a college/university course to receive academic credit for the internship
- Upperclassman (junior or senior) standing
- Must be able to commute to our San Diego, CA office
- Complete a week-long training program at the start of the internship
- Commit to a regular weekly schedule (16 hours/week)
- Proficiency in computer programs, including:
- Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
- Word, PowerPoint & Excel in a Mac OS environment
- Self-starter, ability to work independently
- Strong oral & written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Must be able to identify & resolve problems in a timely manner
- Experience with AP writing style
- Social media knowledge
- Presentation skills
Compensation:
- Student interns are compensated with school credit and a stipend upon completion of the internship ($575)
- Academic credit varies and is to be determined by student interns' universities – receiving academic credit is a requirement to be eligible for our internship
